 Dog in the Spotlight
Meet Billy! He started his journey at Hearts and Paws last summer when he was adopted from a rescue by his mom. Mr. Billy is thought to be a boxer/boston terrier mix who has such an exhuberance for life loves to bounce around. Some of his best little buddies at Doggie daycare are Hope, Maggie, Gibbs, and Oakley. Billy has been working on having good manners, such as not jumping up and sitting for greeting. Everyone at Hearts and Paws has a hand in helping with training. This makes Billy a happy camper since he loves earning treats!

Sharing the Puppy Love
There is so much that we are constantly learning about dog's abilities and behavior. Our own Canine Companions surprise us everyday with their silly antics, gentle spirits, or feisty attitudes. In the spirit of Valentine's Day that will soon be upon us we want to share what we love about our own pups.

Alex - I love how affectionate Hugo is. When we get the chance we will snuggle on the couch all day together. He gives the best kisses and makes me feel like I'm the most awesome person in the world. We are so emotionally in-sync with each other, and I don't know where I would be without him!

Jasmine - I love how much of an independent thinker Gwen is. She loves to solve puzzels, in her own way, which makes for lots of fun and laughs when we are learning to do new tricks together. At the end of the day we cuddle up and I will always smile when she curls up next to me.

Chip - My Pappy, Scout, has been with me for 10 years and is my inspiration and friend. My Dachshund mix, Arrow, is my travel buddy, cuddle bug, and Agility star.

Diana -  Rudy, my whippet mix, for over 14 years has been a loving companion. For 10 years he was excellent dog training partner.  In his retirement he has continued to be my "Smoochie Poochie" as he loves to kiss and spoon. Bliss, my 2 yr Toller has been what I call "Goldilocks" as she is just right in so many ways.  Her friendliness to people and dogs is outstanding. She is so beautiful yet "cute".  She likes to learn and is athletic.

Patsy -  I love that Mia loves children and other dogs. I love that Mia is happy, healthy and always 'ready to go' anywhere, anytime. I love that Mia and I were brought together through a PERFECT rescue match from Gold Ribbon Rescue.

Karin - My dogs are my special furry Valentines because they put me in the pink when I'm blue with their loving kisses and wags! And they have hearts as big as Texas!

Nathan - I love how affectionate Lucy is. She loves to lick myface to wake me up in the morning.

Now that we have shared with you what we love about our own canines, we would love to hear your favorite things about your pup!

Please consider donating:
Each year, Hearts and Paws gives away thousands of dollars in services to help foster and shelter dogs be well socialized and well mannered so they can be in a permanent home. Also, we have a tremendous impact on the next generation through our Kids and Dogs Camps. The incredible impact these camps have can been seen in this short video. Your contribution can help us underwrite camp scholarships in order to extend them to those who otherwise could not afford to go. Please pray about a contribution today.

The Doggy Kitchen
Fresh Breath Fro-Yo
Alex loves to bake for her Boston Terrier, Hugo. Which has inspired Jasmine to try a new recipe for her leggy girl, Gwen.

What you will need:
  • 2 TBS chopped parsley
  • 1 TBS chopped mint
  •  3/4 c plain greek yogurt
  • 1/4 c apple sauce
How To:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Feel free to add your pup's favorite fruit or vegetable in the mix. (as long as it's safe for dogs to injest, see here)
  3. Using a muffin tin (or you can use dixie cups) scoop about a Table spoon scoop per cup
  4. Put in freezer for 3 hours, or until frozen
  5. Enjoy fresher breath!

We hope your canine companion enjoys these treats as much as Gwen and Hugo do. Send us your pup's favorite recipes and a picture of them enjoying it to be featured in our next issue!
