Be Jolly at Winter Holiday Camp at West Side School!

Come join us at holiday camp and have some jolly fun! Children will enjoy cooking, crafts, holiday games, and even have a special visitor. Register your child and they will have a day of adventure while you enjoy a day of shopping or finish up your work before the holidays. Adult Hoop dance is an exciting form of dance utilizing a hula hoop to get a workout or just learn a new exciting dance form. Hoops to use in class will be provided and are available for purchase. Wear tight fitting work out clothes. Lose weight while having fun!!!! Check out YouTube under hoop dance to see what it is all about.

Learn the designer’s secrets – create beautiful arrangements to accent and complement your home décor. Gain information regarding design- principals, elements, mechanics, and foundational guidelines on how to select materials will be explained. Receive hands on experience, completing 1 to 3 arrangements of your choosing. Students are encouraged to bring photos, containers, fabric and/or paint samples.

Do you have a love for the art of animation and wish you knew how to draw your favorite characters? This class will stress basic principles in character design, proportion, volume, construction, style, attitudes and expressions, perspective, and more. Join us as we have fun with design!

  

Other favorite classes will be offered; register early - classes fill up fast - belly dancing, tap, bridge, mah jongg, yoga, yogalates, and zumba.

SPRING AND SUMMER CLASSES FOR DRIVERS EDUCATION

The Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education program is a joint program of the Marietta and Cobb County School Systems. This program is licensed by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and includes 30 hours of classroom and 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction. Behind-the-wheel instruction is individual instruction in a specially equipped car. The program meets the requirements for the Teen Driver’s Education insurance discount.
 
Spring break class schedules are online now!  Summer class schedules will be posted mid-April. For information and registration forms visit our web site at www.mariettacommunityschool.com.  You may register online or by fax using a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card, or mail a check made payable to Marietta Community School with the completed registration form.   Course fee is $375.00.

 

EVENTS AROUND TOWN

Now - January 1 - Sanders Family ChristmasThe perennial favorite holiday show has the sunny-voiced Events-SandersFamilyChristmasSanders Family back just before the beginning of World War II. They're quirky, saintly and delightfully melodic as they interpret everybody's favorite bluegrass gospel music. 8-10pm.  Theatre in the Square - 11 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta.  www.theatreinthesquare.com.

Now - January 1 - Radio Hour Holiday Shows.  This beloved show was a hot hit in Theatre in the Square's very first season and went on for a 25-year-run. Now, after a five-year hiatus the old gang at WOV - Johnny, Ginger, Ann Pops, B.J., Wally and more - are back at the mics with the dance routines and swing music that are as rousing as they are heartwarming.  All performances of The 1940's Radio Hour will take place 8-10pm at Southern Polytechnic State University - Joe Mack Wilson Student Center, 1100 South Marietta Parkway.

December 20 - A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Jeffrey Butzer and T.T. Mahoney present a jazzy musical tribute to Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas. Special guests, Sorry No Ferrari, perform The Ventures Christmas Album – the season’s favorites with a taste of ‘60s surf. Creative Loafing deemed this show “A New Christmas Tradition”.  3pm & 8pm.  Earl Smith Strand Theatre, 117 North Park Square.  770-293-0080.

December 21-24 - Santa in the Square. Bring the kids to Marietta Square to visit Santa’s Workshop.  The workshop will be open Saturdays and weekdays from 10am-6pm, Sundays from 11am-5pm, and December 24, 2011 from 10am-3pm. Closed for lunch from 1:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m.  The line will close one hour before closing.  Shops on the Square will be open with unique gifts and holiday treats. Events-LegoNow - January 10 - 2011 Lego DisplayOver 500,000 Lego pieces are featured in a gigantic cityscape with a 12-foot tall skyscraper, buildings, an amphitheater, the Dragon Con Parade, an oriental garden...and more. A scavenger hunt sheet is available for children to find minifigures such as Santa Claus, ghosts, skateboarders, etc. Display is located in the Roswell Honda Carland's showroom. Now - January 10 Monday - Friday, 8am-9pm, Saturday 8 am- 5pm Sunday 1pm - 5pm. Closed Christmas day.

January 1 - Holiday Model Train Show.  G-scale choo choo trains and a holiday trolley chug along tracks in an imaginary, beautifully planted landscape. The trains run during regular Garden hours 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and at night during Garden Lights, Holiday Nights. 9am-4pm.  Atlanta Botanical Garden, Atlanta.

January 15 - February 19 - The Ladies Man.  An amorous doctor's innocent lie leads to chaotic compounded mistakes involving a suspicious wife, a grumpy mother-in-law, an assertive female patient and her jealous Prussian husband - not to mention a well-intentioned patient with a serious lisp.  Theatre in the Square 11 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta.  8-10pm.

January 17 - Seniors Luncheon.  Guests will enjoy lunch, bingo, and other special activities. The luncheon is held at Roberts School Community and Education Center in Acworth. Lunch at noon, bingo and prizes.  Free to all seniors ages 55 years and older. www.acworth.org/aprd  770- 917-1234.

January 21 - May 19 - Green Thumb Gardening Series.  Workshops: 1/21 - Trees and Shrubs; 2/18 - Floral and Culinary Herbs; 3/24 - Native Plants; 4/28 - Annuals and Container Gardening; 5/19 - Shade and Sun Perennials. Registration 8:30am; Presentations 9-11am.   Lunch included. Marietta Educational Gardening Center - 505 Kennesaw Avenue. Private tour of local garden or nursery, some plants for sale.

January 26 - April 14 - Jennie T. Anderson Theater Performances.

Events-ShenYunJanuary 27 - Shen Yun 2012 World Tour.  An exhilarating world-class production of exquisite performances that celebrate the pure excellence and grandeur of classical Chinese dance and music inspired by the myths, legends, and divine beauty of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.  7:30pm  Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

February 5 - Red Letter Jesus.  Eleven years after his sold-out run of The Gospel of John at Theatre in the Square, Brad Sherrill returns to the Alley Stage to bring new life to Jesus' words as written in Matthew, Mark and Luke. This world premiere performance is not to be missed!  7-9pm  Theatre in the Square.

February 10-19 - Atlanta Ballet.  Twyla Tharp's The Princess and the Goblin.  Experience Tharp's original full-evening ballet co-produced by Atlanta Ballet and Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet. A story of a courageous young girl who confronts the trials of coming-of-age, this family-friendly ballet will involve students from the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education.  John A. March 16 - Jeanne Robertson.  Robertson’s real life story is relatable and memorable, Events- Robertson
making her humor stand out amongst typical comedic entertainers. She keeps audiences rolling on the floor with laughter.  This refined humorist brings delightful Southern charm and loads of laughter to each performance.
