ChristineCHRISTINE LURHUMA

Originally from Wiesbaden, Germany, Christine is a senior double majoring in criminal justice and sociology.  This is her third year working at Heritage Center as a ticketing assistant.  She enjoys all the shows and seeing patrons’ eyes light up during performances.  In addition to working at Heritage Center, Christine is vice president of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Incorporated, captain of the UD Cheer and Stunt team, president of HPAAC (Heritage Performing Arts Advisory Committee), and a Wendt Character Scholar.  After graduating in 2019, she plans to go to law school to become a criminal defense attorney.

Hailing from the Stone Forest of Yunnan Province in southwestern China, Manhu brings to life the traditions of the Yi people, an ethnic minority group with a rich musical history. Playing the hulusheng, a mouth organ made from dried gourds, and even an ordinary leaf used as a reed, Manhu shares instruments and songs that are well-known in their homeland, but rarely seen on an international stage.

Called "the world's reigning male chorus" by The New Yorker, the San Francisco based Grammy award-winning, 12-voice ensemble Chanticleer celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2018. Their 2018-19 concert tour, “Then and There, Here and Now,” features a wide repertoire of early music, spirituals, jazz, and American songbook classics by Richard Rodgers, Duke Ellington, and Irving Berlin.
 
The UD Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will open the concert!

Wendt Lecture: Claude Chester

From correctional officer to warden, Claude Chester believed in providing opportunities to help inmates change and have a better life once they’re released.  A retired warden with the Federal Bureau of Prisons who dedicated over 27 years of service during his career, Warden Chester held positions of varying backgrounds including security, operational procedures, correctional case management, and program development in places such as Kansas, New York, and the “Super Max” in Colorado.

Fall Wind and Jazz Ensemble Concert

The wind ensemble will perform pieces around the theme “Storytelling.”  Music will transport the listener throughout Europe with stops including Scotland, the Swiss Alps, and even Russia. The jazz ensemble will focus on classic standards and recordings while appealing to the modern hits of the 21st century.
