It’s been a busy summer, but it is well worth all our hard work to share this exciting news with you… Just seven years after Friends of Calakmul was founded – this summer marks a Major milestone. In the next few months, we will achieve our original goal of signing conservation agreements on more than 300,000 acres of previously unprotected rainforest in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve! This is a huge accomplishment – and it could never have happened without the support of so many dedicated people like you. I can think of no better way to express how much your support has made possible than to share this other piece of news with you… Due to the fulfillment of our founding goal, Friends of Calakmul is now expanding our mission to include the protection of a much larger biological corridor within the Mesoamerican hotspot: the area extending from the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, to the Mesoamerican Reef. To reflect this expanded mission, Friends of Calakmul has changed our name to Rainforest2Reef. This is an exciting time – and we look forward to continuing to use our unique conservation lease approach to protect an even larger amount of the irreplaceable ecosystems within the MesoAmerican Hotspot.
