New Financial Reporting Requirements Tool

j0432632 copy.jpgLast month we asked you to submit questions about accounting and financial reporting. Thanks to CPA, Dana Chabot, we have a new Financial Reporting Requirements tool in our Watershed Advocate Toolkit. The new tool discusses these four issues:

  • Reporting income tax for WI Nonstock Corporations that are not tax-exempt
  • Operating as tax-exempt without filing a federal application
  • Accepting contributions while your tax-exempt status is pending
  • Reporting raffle income

Communicating Environmentally Workshop

May 9, 2009
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
River Arts Center
Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin

The River Alliance of Wisconsin is hosting a workshop to help you have an effective voice in decision making. The workshop will help you wade through the decision-making process for local governments and understand how you can influence environmental policy decisions.

Representative Steve Hilgenberg, District 51, will open the workshop with his thoughts on the importance of civic involvement, followed by a presentation by the University of Stevens Point Center for Land Use Education about how to stay on top of the government decision making process.

After lunch, Dorothy Lagerroos, retired Environmental Studies and Government Professor at Northland College, will provide hands-on training in developing and getting your message across.

The workshop begins at 10:00 a.m., includes lunch, and will conclude at 3:00 p.m.

A nominal fee of $10.00 to cover lunch is requested, and advance registration is required for lunch planning purposes.

To register, go to our website to complete our on-line registration form by Monday, May 4.

DNR Grant Deadlines May 1

The deadline for DNR’s River Protection Grant Program and Citizen-Based Monitoring Program is May 1st!

DNRlogoColor_small.jpgIf you are applying for a River Planning Grant please review the updated ranking criteria in Section A. DNR staff has reapportioned the breadth of points to benefit both formation of new organizations and those existing organizations wanting to grow.

As always, River Alliance staff can assist you with River Protection Grants by discussing your proposal, reviewing your draft application and providing letters of support. Please contact Allison Werner, awerner@wisconsinrivers.org, as early as possible to allow for adequate review time.

On-line meeting scheduling tools

There are many on-line options for scheduling meetings with ease. Here is a quick overview of some of the more popular on-line scheduling sites.

Doodle is a free, very simple scheduling program. There is no registration required.

Meeting Wizard is a formal scheduling program with free and low cost scheduling packages which are easily integrated into other programs like Microsoft Outlook. Registration is required.

Meet-o-Matic is a free, no-frills, basic scheduling program. There is no registration required. It is designed for smaller groups and is not suited for scheduling larger group meetings. It is not especially compatible with all computer programs so it is advised to review compatibility before using this program.

All three programs work in a similar way. To schedule a meeting simply create a meeting request and propose possible meeting dates/times to participants. After responses are received and reviewed, the meeting time is confirmed and sent out to all participants.

To schedule meetings for a larger group on a regular basis, Meeting Wizard may be the best fit for your organization. However, if you are looking to schedule meetings less frequently, Doodle and Meet-o-Matic are both simple, quick services to utilize.
