Auction Trading
One item that usually does well is a river trip. Even better is if one of your board members leads a guided trip on your home river as their contribution to the auction. However, it was suggested recently that many river group members have already paddled their home river a gazillion times and would be more interested in a guided trip on another river in Wisconsin. Mark Sethne, Friends of the Platte River board member and friend of River Alliance, came up with a great solution, auction trading. He is willing to donate a great guided trip on one of his favorite rivers in Southwest Wisconsin to a river group's auction if that group provides a similar trip to the Friends of the Platte River's auction next spring. Speaking of auctions, River Alliance’s auction goes live on Monday! We have items from all corners of the state, including a get-away package to Bayfield, tickets to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, multiple canoe and kayak trips, and even whitewater rafting—right here in Wisconsin! Go to the auction site and look at the items already posted, sign up for updates of newly posted items, and register to start bidding on September 7.
We featured an article about the Friends of the St. Croix Headwater’s successful Canoes on Wheels (COWS) program on page two of our new issue of Wisconsin Rivers. COWS is all about connecting kids to their local waters to inspire them to be better stewards.
The EPA recently posted a new website called "Watershed Central" to help watershed organizations and others find key information they need to manage watersheds. Watershed Central helps users find environmental data, watershed models, nearby local organizations, and guidance documents. Watershed Central not only links to EPA Web resources but also links to other valuable funding, guidance and tools on Web sites of state, tribal, and federal partners, universities, and nonprofit organizations.
The Rock River Coalition used a few of the pet waste advertisements from the toolbox in their effort to reduce the estimated ONE TON of dog waste flowing into the Rock River every year from just one city in their watershed. Check out their Do Your Doody Fact Sheet for more information. |
