Holiday Health Tips (To Do Year Round):
Suprisingly Easy, Super Effective Tools to Take Care Of Yourself Even though we exercise, eat right and get enough sleep stress can sometimes make itself known in the form of headaches, stiff necks and sore backs. Keeping stress down not only helps us feel better and think more clearly, but makes us more immune to whatever bugs are floating around. There are so many ways to fight stress, I picked a few tools that I recommend to all of my clients and practice myself. Here are four things you can do to help yourself feel better on a daily basis: 1. Deep, conscious breathing – I know you’ve heard this before, but it really works. Breath holding and shallow breathing are fairly common, and have such a negative impact on our system. Take time to stop and completely fill and empty your lungs. Count while you breath in and out and try to increase the number by breathing more deeply. I do this daily and am still amazed at how much better I feel after taking a complete breath. 2. Constructive Rest Position (CRP) - This is great for everyone, but especially useful to people with low back pain or fatigue. This position allows the muscles surrounding the pelvis and spine to relax into a neutral position after a day of holding us in some unnatural postures (sitting, slouching). Lie on the floor with legs supported by a pillow or low chair. If your head is arching back, use a small pillow to level it out – chin and forehead in the same plane. Stay like this for 10-15 minutes. Try to relax and not worry about all the things that need to get done (this is challenging for most people) – let it go for a few minutes. You should feel revived when done. If you fell asleep, go to bed.
