HEALTH AND WELLNESS SPOTLIGHT

The Pearl Health Center would like to remind you to cover up. Did you know Oregon has one of the highest incidences of skin cancer in the country? Who would have guessed?  True, we may have more cloudy and rainy days but that doesn’t mean we are immune to the damaging UVA and UVB rays emitted by the sun. Science has demonstrated these damaging rays can penetrate ten feet into the ocean where it is pitch black! Dr. Erica Pierson N.D has these important recommendations to help you protect yourself.

-Apply sunscreen thirty minutes before you heading outside. It takes that long for the ingredients to activate.

-Apply sunscreen lavishly, at least a palmful, and every few hours hours while outside; immediately after swimming

- Use sunscreen year round, even when it is cloudy. UVA rays (that age you) stay constant, whereas UVB rays (that cause you to burn) peak in June.

- Sunscreen can lose its potency so be sure to check for expiration dates.

- Come in to speak with Dr. Pierson about natural products that will improve your skin's glow, decrease drying, and improve circulation.

Mention this article for a ten percent discount on our selection of sunscreen. The Pearl Health Center reminds you prevention is worth an ounce of cure. Protect yourself now for healthy skin throughout your life.
