Dear Friends,
Americans made history yesterday by putting the son of an immigrant, the son of a binational couple, in the White House. Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama and the newly elected Senators and Representatives of the 111th Congress.
President-elect Obama has said he supports the goals of the Uniting American Families Act and equal benefits for same-sex couples. Now we must hold him and the new Congress accountable to their promises of equal rights.
Give us the best ammunition to fight this fight: donate $10 to Immigration Equality and ask three friends to donate $10.
In the next few days we will submit transition recommendations to the new administration that include passage of UAFA and completing the repeal of the HIV ban. However, these changes are far from automatic, even in a new administration.
We will only succeed if we have adequate resources. We need your involvement - and your financial support - to win.
Our next step is to work with activists around the country, building support in the 111th Congress to ultimately pass UAFA. In Washington, we will press for immigration reform focused on family unification - for all families, including ours.
As you can see, there is great work to be done in next phase of the fight. Each of us will be asked to do more, fight harder, and become more visible, so that in the end we will win.
Reaffirm your commitment to equality: please donate $10 and ask three friends to do the same by forwarding this email.
I am honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in this critical new phase of our work.
Yours in the fight,
Rachel B. Tiven Esq.
