THE BIG EVENT! |

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MATT & TRINIDAD: In his acceptance remarks, Big Brother Matt shared that 2008 had been a tough year for both he and his Little Brother, but going through difficult times just made the two of them appreciate each other even more. “He’s a fantastic kid” Matt said. “the worse things got in his life, the more I appreciated how strong he was, how much there is to respect about him.” Matt also proudly told the audience that despite the troubles Trinidad had been through, he had just got straight A’s on his report card! “That's inspirational to me.” Matt told them – the audience enthusiastically agreed, bursting into thunderous applause in recognition of Trinidad’s for exceptional achievement. |

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAWN & OLIVIA: Olivia and Dawn have been matched for 7 years and had also faced some very difficult times together. Big Sister Dawn commented that she, too, had learned a lot as a result of their relationship. “I’ve learned what resiliency means. Olivia is resilient.” Dawn said. “She’s been through a lot in the time that I’ve known her and through it all, she's made it, she's a fantastic, positive smart, conscientious young woman.” But it was Olivia’s emotional and heartfelt comments that truly told the story of their match. “Growing up for me has always been hard … Dawn has been the person that I could tell just about anything to. And she always has an answer. Having a big brother or big sister just to spend time with can affect a kid in more ways than you think. Because of the support I have gotten over the years I am now in the top three at my high school and just last week I got the great news I passed my high school exit exam! I now know that anything I want to do in my future, I can do”. After Olivia’s beautiful comments, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! |

| With inspirational stories to tell like these to share, it’s no wonder that the 2009 BIG Event was able to generate $145,000 in donations through the generous support of individual donors and corporate sponsors. (click here to view a complete list of sponsors and event photos) Best of all, many of these gifts were doubled, thanks to matching gift funds available through a Challenge Grant made by an anonymous donor! We are so pleased and grateful that even in today’s difficult financial environment, the Bay Area community recognizes the importance of youth mentoring and is committed to supporting BBBSBA’s vital programs. Thank you to all our donors and volunteers for your dedicated partnership! |

BBBSBA Awarded Quarter Million Dollar Challenge Grant! Recently, an anonymous donor made a very generous gift to BBBSBA in the form of a Challenge Grant. They will contribute $100,000 to support our mentoring programs - provided that we can encourage other potential supporters, including both individual donors and corporate funders, to collectively contribute $100,000 to match their gift by the end of the year. Additionally, if BBBSBA can raise the $100,000 within the first six months of the Challenge (by August 18th), they will donate an additional $50,000 – making the total amount generated through the Challenge Grant a Quarter of a Million Dollars! THE BIG NEWS: Thanks to tremendous donor response to-date, we have already raised $84,000 towards achieving our Challenge goal!!! Help us make it all the way…This is a truly unique opportunity to “double” your donation, and therefore double your impact on the Bay Area's most at-risk youth! Please act now!Your gift of any amount makes a real difference in children's lives. With your help, we can achieve our vision of clearing our waiting list and providing more kids in the Bay Area with a caring mentor. Thank you so much for your support!
