 July 2009

Happy summer!  I hope you’re enjoying the unusually warm July we’re having, and that there are some fun vacation plans in your future!  If you’re planning on sticking close to home there are some events coming up that are sure to please you and the pup, see below for details.

The events listed here can also be found at the Happy Hounds Massage website on the Special Events or Regular Schedule pages.  I hope you find the information fun and useful, and that you feel free to pass this along to friends!

The Moolah for Mutts was another successful and almost too-much- fun-to-be-legal event for Muttville.  A beautiful venue, generous auction and raffle prizes, delicious food and dozens of kind and thoughtful guests made this a night to remember.  It also garnered Muttville enough resources to help take care of many of the deserving dogs under Sherri’s care.

This Weekend....

MItzvah On The Rocks – no it’s not dogs but it’s worthwhile anyway!
A fundrasier for Jewish Family and Children's Services emergency fund
Thursday, July 16 from 6:30pm - 10:00pm
330 Ritch Street, San Francisco

Mitzvah on the Rocks is an gang of mensches who go around helping people in need.  Go figure! This time they’re here in SF and are challenging our community to see how many families they can help feed.  Proceeds of the raffle and cover charge will go to the fund, and anyone arriving by 7:30 will receive an extra raffle ticket!  Keep an eye on their Facebook site as donations to the raffle are added, including a chance to win a Happy Hounds Massage gift coupon!

Bathe a Dog & Save a Dog -Help keep our K-9 Police Dogs safe and healthy!
A fundraiser for the Bay Area K-9 Police Dogs
Saturday July 18,  all day

Any of the 34 Bay Area Pet Food Express stores

As a part of their ongoing support of our community Pet Food Express is helping to raise money for the Cover Your K-9 fund that provides services, including protective gear,  to K-9 Police Dogs.  Go to any Pet Food Express where you can make a direct donation, or purchase as many bath tokens as you like because 100% of the proceeds goes to the fund!

But wait...it gets better!  I'll be at the Market Street store from 12:00 - 3:00 giving dog massages as usual, with 100% of the proceeds going to the fund!  Bring your dogs, tell your friends' dogs - this is a great opportunity to give back to the community and benefit from your own generosity!

And at select Pet Food Express stores that day you can watch K-9 demonstration and meet the K-9 and human officers!  Call your local store for details.

See the cute promo poster here, and I'll see you in the store!

Sunday Streets in San Francisco
Mission District (see the map)
Sunday July 19th  from 10:00 – 2:00pm

Based of the successful neighborhood rapor-building Ciclovías of Colombia, a path of streets will be closed to auto traffic allowing residents and visitors to explore the neighborhood freely.  Along the route will be merchants and vendors offering information, activities, goods and services with health related themes for the family, including pets!  There’ll be a whole ‘doggie’ section too, so bring your pup and stop by the Happy Hounds Massage booth at Mission Playground for a visit!

Mission Playground is on 19th Street between Valencia and Guerrero
For more information visit the Sunday Streets website.

Business as Usual…

Pet Food Express Schedule
I'm now at the Pet Food Express Market Street store on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 12:00 - 3:00pm.  Feel free to bring your dog for their regular massage or a quick tune-up.  In-store massages start at 10 minutes, and all massages come with a token for the do-it-yourself dog wash, complements of Pet Food Express!  Don’t forget the ‘Buy 3 Get 1 Free’ offer so you can stock up on goodies and necessities while you’re there.

SF Chihuahua Meet-Up
Another Beast of The Bay winner, SF Chihuahua Meet-Up gets together the first Sunday of every month at Pine Lake Dog Park in Stern Grove from 12:00 - 2:00-ish.  As the group's "Official Dog Massage Therapist" I'll be there too, offering quick tune-ups and check-ups for whoever needs it. Feel free to bring your small dog, Chi or not, for some hound and human socialization, snacking and an all around good time!

Please check the website for the summer schedule

That's it for now, I hope to see you and your Best Furry Friend soon!

Cool your canine in the summer sun!

Cooling bandanas, portable water bowls and cold gel pads are just a few fab products you can use to keep your pup from overheating.  See the selection at Pet Food Express or online at Drs. Foster and Smith.

Did you know that young active dogs often get  injured?

wrestling.jpg

They can bang themselves up pretty badly just rough- housing and being goofy. They usually heal quickly,  but sometimes they hide the problem in favor of more play, and you won't know until they're limping or not so willing to do things.
Getting your dog a Maintenance Massage once a month or so can help detect and alleviate conditions that could turn into a problem later.
