Product Updates:

Microelectronics

Through cooperation with Sound Design Technologies (SDT), CMC is pleased to offer access to GA911, 2.5Ghz bipolar array based on pre-manufactured wafers that include capacitors, resistors, NPN/PNP devices, diodes and bond pads.  The technology is ideal for introductory courses on IC design.  GA911 can be used to design simple analog circuits in design, fabrication and test of integrated circuits. SDT has made the commitment to offer GA911 for the foreseeable future for CMC clients.

  • Turnaround time: 3 weeks (from design submission to delivery of packaged chips)
  • Cost: $500 (flat fee for up to 100 manufactured and packaged designs)
  • Run Frequency: 2 scheduled runs per year with the potential for more based on demand
  • Design Kits available: Electric, Cadence
  • Examples of previous designs: Amplifiers, Modulators, PLL, Oscillators, Filters, Comparators, A/D and D/A Converters, Current Mirrors, Voltage and Current References, Mixers, Integrator, Triangular Wave Generators, Temperature Sensors, BJT Logic Gates etc. Read More

Embedded Systems

New Release: CoWare Model Designer and Platform Architect 2009.1.0 for Linux Red Hat Enterprise 4.7.  This new version supports SystemC2.2, performance optimizations for interconnect memory subsystems, and enhanced simulation capacity for large designs.  To determine if your university is licensed and setup to use this tool, contact your STC System Administrator.

Photonics and Optoelectronics

In the next few weeks CMC will be surveying all research faculty members with interests in photonics and/or optoelectronics.  The data collected from this online questionnaire will be used to help CMC plan for changes in our portfolio of tools, technologies and services.  We thank you in advance for your feedback.  For further details, please contact Dan Deptuck (deptuck@cmc.ca)

Milling Machine Prototyping Services Available- ARFSL, University of Manitoba

  • The Advanced RF Systems Lab (ARFSL) is currently offering milling services to researchers at Canadian Universities.  Custom RF, microwave and PCB designs can be rapidly prototyped for a nominal fee. Read More

Generic Aluminum Nitride (AIN) Carriers

  • CMC has developed a generic AIN carrier to assist researchers who wish to:

    • Test opteoelectronic devices, including lasers, modulators, optical amplifiers, waveguide devices, at the chip-on-carrier level

    • Package their optoelectronic devices with a suitable chip substrate

    • Obtain high-performance carriers optimized for optoelectronic test applications, at a significantly reduced cost

    • Canadian Academic Pricing is 300$/box.  A box (dimensions of 2x2x0.5cm) of the waveguide contains 28 parts; a box of the laser carriers contains 15 parts.Read More

Advanced Photonics System Lab at Queen’s University:

  • The Advanced Photonics Systems lab (APSL) provides chip and carrier test resources (equipment and expertise) for researchers who are creating photonic devices and photonic sensor integration and who need:
    • Design and/or test laser diodes, LEDs or passive photonic waveguide devices
    • Need more sophisticated testing than is available in their own facilities. Read More
