A Note From Our New Librarian
Hi,
my name is Kathryn Kohl and I am the new half-time library assistant. I
am super excited to be part of the school, and I hope to get to meet you all
soon. In addition to working at Sunnyside I am a reference librarian for
Clackamas County and Mt. Hood Community College, so I should be able to help
with your students' research/reference needs as the progress through the school
year!
To
give you a brief update on the SES library - we're going to stay closed for a
few weeks to inventory the collection, order some new books, and organize the
volunteers for a great school year. My main goals for this year are
getting the classrooms into the library for class visits (now that we have a
wall! Thank you Rhonda, Randy and everyone else who helped!), integrating
more with the public library and the classroom curriculum, updating the
collection with some new titles, and general promotion of the library; I want
to entice everyone to come visit the library
Thank
you, and welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!

Family Directory:
We
are busy working on the Family Directory so that it can be printed in
October. If you were included in the Directory last year but need any
info updated, please email me directly at neeley@dnld.net.
If you have never had your info in the directory, but would like to, click on this link: DIRECTORY PDF.
You can copy the format and email it back if you want. Just be sure
that the information doesn’t get jumbled by format changes. I would
like to receive these changes/additions by September 18th.
School News and Information
A Birth: Just

School Grounds
Reminder for You and Your Dogs: The
entire block: school, gardens, grounds--even the field--are on-leash only areas. Please do not
allow your dog to run free on school grounds, even if there are no kids playing
outside. The school and the larger community are working to create a safe
environment on the grounds. But it is difficult for the school to ask for
change when parents are not following the rules. If you see a dog off leash,
please, respectfully, ask the owner to follow the rules!
PPS Notification: All
PPS schools are to publicize the District Parent/Student Complaint Policy. That
policy is available at: http://www.pps.k12.or.us/directives-c/pol-reg/4/50/030_P.pdf
or in the SES office.

Safer Routes To School: Let’s Begin the Year Walking and
Rolling!
Get out those walking shoes and pump up your bike
tires! With the beginning of the new
school year, now is the time for students and families to set healthy and fun
habits about how you get to and from school.
There are many ways to establish active habits today. Determine specific days each week or month
that you will walk or roll to school. Make it a social event and coordinate
your commute with neighbors or other families.
If getting to school car-free is not possible, try driving part way and
walking the last 2 to 4 blocks.
Together, let’s join millions around the world in the
International Walk + Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 7th. Register our school at www.walknbike.org.
