| Notes From Principal Sarah |
Many of you have asked about full or half day kindergarten.
Half day is a choice for neighborhood families only, unless we reach our quota of full day families. We need a set number of full day kindergartners in order to receive an educational assistant and we are in danger of losing our very experienced kindergarten EA because we are just shy of that number.
If you are lottery and we have you as half day, you must be full day. Please call the office on Tuesday 503.916.6226.
If you are half day and are considering full day, please call right way.
It would be very sad to lose such an exceptional kindergarten EA due to an error in communication or paperwork.
Please remember you do not pay if you qualify for free and reduced lunch and we are flexible with full day attendance.
Thanks so much--Sarah |

Help collate on Friday, September 11th at 9:30.
Parents will be collating Back-to-School packets from 9:30 till noon. We could use about 16 parents, so please let me know if you can come. This is a great way to meet a few people if you are new to Sunnyside this year. We will meet in the auditorium. Please rsvp Neeley@dnld.net
Family Directory:
We are busy working on the Family Directory so that it can be printed in October. If you were included in the Directory last year but need any info updated, please email me directly neeley@dnld.net.
If you have never had your info in the directory, but would like to, please print the attached for and return it to the PTSA box in the school office. You can copy the format and email it back if you want. Just be sure that the information doesn’t get jumbled by format changes. I would like to receive these changes/additions by September 18th.

| Art Room Parent Needed |
|
Be a room parent for Mia
Our fabulous art teacher, Mia Myer, often needs help drumming up parent volunteers and getting folks to bring in supplies. If you love art (or just Mia) and want to spend a bit of time each week checking in with her and emailing her needs to classroom room parents, please consider stepping into this position. You'll get assistance and direction from the room parent coordinator and Mia herself. If you want more information or think you want to take this on, please contact Beth Azar at bethazar@msn.com.
A Note From Mona:
Welcome back. I hope everyone had a nice, peaceful, awesome summer. I am in desperate need of some volunteers to help me in the kitchen with serving our three lunches. Our first lunch for the kindergartners, 1st, and 2nd graders is at 11:30am. The second lunch is at 12:00pm for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The third lunch, for the middle school students, is served at 12:30pm. I am looking for four parent volunteers to help out for the first week back, to get everything running smoothly. You will be serving the kids, helping kids find their cards, assisting the kids through the lunch line, helping with the salad bar, and washing our trays. Please, if anyone is interested in helping out, meet me in the kitchen at 11:00am. I really encourage parents to fill out free and reduced forms for your children, you can pick up this form in the office or submit it online. I will be serving breakfast at 8:30am, for anyone who wants to kick start their day with the most important meal!
If you have any questions you can call 503.916.6226 and ask for Mona in the kitchen.
~Mona, the dancing lunch lady!
LOST AND FOUND COORDINATOR FOUND: Kim Schetter, mom to Christopher Schetter (5th Grade) has volunteered to coordinate our Lost and Found this year. If you would be willing to help her with occasional laundry, tidying and organizing or with marking the clothes with safety pins around the same time each month (so we only give away items that have been left for more than 30 days) you can contact her at kimsche@comcast.net.
4TH ANNUAL BACK-TO-SCHOOL EXCHANGE: What a day we had on Monday! The best crew we've every had of youth and adults set up, organized and cleaned up our swap shopping area in the gym. It is a staggering amount of clothes, shoes and other items that get brought in and swapped out to new homes. Once all the swapping was done by school families, Swap Shop families and Sunnyside neighbors, we still had over 65 boxes and bas of wonderful, wearable clothes. Items that fit 4T and below have been given to the Letty Owens Center - a group home for moms with young children working through addictions. Clothes that would appeal to a five to seventeen year old are on their way to the Portland Public School Clothing Center and the racks downstairs in the Sunnyside Methodist Church Building are now full with practical warm weather clothes for homeless, near homeless and low income adults. We'll do it all again on an even larger scale in the spring on or near Earth Day weekend including furniture, building supplies and all kinds of household goods.
