Jack White, one of the busiest musicians in the world, has finally released his first solo album, Blunderbuss, recorded in his Third Man Studio located in Nashville, Tennessee. The music is surprisingly keyboard heavy, and probably not what most fans were expecting, but since when has Jack White been predictable? Guitar fans needn’t worry, however, there is plenty of guitar to go around, with Jack’s unique tones intact. Though the album may not be exactly what was expected by most, it is excellent. The well written and arranged music falls somewhere between Jack’s band The Raconteurs and Get Behind Me Satan-era White Stripes.

Alabama Shakes is a young, soulful roots-rock band from Athens, Alabama. They released an excellent EP in the fall of 2011, and they have now followed up that EP with their first full-length album, Boys & Girls, which includes all of the songs from the original EP. The music is earthy and rustic, sounding at times a bit like a less polished Adele with more prominent and heavier guitar. Which brings us to the next glaring issue - this band looks like normal, everyday people.

The school year is coming to an end.   My Oldest comes home from college tomorrow and will be here for the entire month, then will be going back to MTSU for summer classes.   I realize I will not get to see her every day in May but only about 2-3 hours a week.   I will see her when she needs money, when she wakes up and, oh yes, when she needs money.   I remember how it was when I came home from school.  I had way too much to do when I got home, people to see (in her case, her boyfriend), money to spend (not her money) and I had to catch up on sleep.   I will get a few meals with her, love her, give her kisses and embarrass her!!  I will be very excited to see her.
 
My Youngest is getting her learner’s driving permit this week. She is 15.  She is already asking me if she can get a hardship license to drive due to volleyball.  REALLY??   I think she does not realize I was once her age and I know that trick!! 
 
The regular volleyball season is over but her team is playing an extended season and going to the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) in June.   This is why she “can’t get a job this summer”?   Practices are three days a week, 2 hours a day, and “a job will interfere with practices”.   She thinks I believe that as well.
 
I will take all the excuses, all the “I want this” and all the “I need that” because that means we are spending time together and I would not change any of that for the world.
